The Yogathon is Catching On |

You’ve probably seen the concept before, a walk-a-thon to raise money for a local shelter, a dance-a-thon to sponsor local high school kids on their senior trip, maybe even a rock-a-thon where participants rock in rocking chairs all night long for a good cause. Now the yoga community is taking on the “a-thon” for good causes all over the country. From small local fundraising to large national projects, the yoga-thon idea is growing.
In Los Angeles, CA on Saturday June 27th, City Yoga will be holding its 3rd bi-annual Yogathon to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) beginning at 9 am on Saturday through 9 am on Sunday, June 28th in West Hollywood. For 24-hours participants of all levels will be instructed in various yoga styles while also enjoying yoga massage, music, food, drink and an appearance by CBS’s popular NCIS star, Pauley Perrette. CITY YOGA was established in 1999 and is located in West Hollywood, CA. In May, yoga service organization Karma Krew sponsored a nation wide interpretation of the yogathon called Peace by Peace. Instead of a continuous practice of yoga, participants were encouraged to find sponsors for every yoga class they participated in during the month of May. All of the money raised went to support ongoing Karma Krew projects. On July 5th in Chicago, IL, the International Association for Human Values is sponsoring a Yogathon from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to to promote yoga as a healthy lifestyle choice, while raising funds that will make a difference in the lives of youth and veterans. The funds raised through pledges by partcipants will go directly towards the innovative YES! High school program and veterans workshop in the Chicagoland area. The event will take on July 5 at the Hilton Chicago, 720 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60605. The highlight of this event is a session with IAHV founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. All over the country for a wide range of outreach projects, more and more studios are turning to the yogathon concept to raise money and bring awareness. Maybe there is a yogathon event happening in your community, or maybe there is a cause that you could support with a yogathon. Let us know about your yogathon experiences in the comments. 0 Comments
