 This exceptionally soothing, calming and uplifting Cd by the accomplished composer/musician Stevin McNamara is a journey into the Classical music of Northern India using Western harmonies and instruments (primarily the nylon-string guitar). Using the Indian form and function of the raga, these compositions invoke strong moods of peace, longing and joy, while retaining an Indian flavor with the use of sitar, tamboura, tabla, dholak and bells.
Most impressive is the third track, with its string and percussion sounds composed from only one instrument, the nylon-string guitar. The liner notes explain the form, structure and spiritual intent of the Indian Raga as well as the historic use of music for meditation.
