Japa Mala Beads

A Mala is a string of beads used to count mantras (Sanskrit prayers) in sets of 27, 56 or 108 repetitions.
The large meru (mountain) bead provides a starting and ending point on the mala for counting the repetitions. Mala beads are an ancient tool that was developed to keep the mind focused on the practice of meditation. Mala beads are seen in other cultures and religions and are also known as prayer beads, rosary beads and worry beads. Mala beads are typically made out of different materials, and the properties of the beads are said to have specific energetic effects.

About Our Mala Beads

Our malas are made with semi-precious gemstones, hand-carved bone, rudraksha beads, sacred woods and hemp tassels. Our unique mala designs are created by an artist and strung by a yogi. All our malas are purified and blessed before we send them off to you. Due to the natural materials used the color and the size of the beads may vary.

Our malas have been crafted to be highly potent for spiritual work as well as mind-body healing. The conscious combination of high-grade gemstone beads with suggested mantras create a powerful synergetic force for healing, spiritual learning and well-being.

About Japa Mala Beads

Japa Mala Beads was started in 2004 with five unique mala designs. After searching locally and online for a a new mala, founder Timothy Burgin gave up in frustration and made his own. He was so happy with his results that he decided to share his newly found craft to others. By October of 2005 our line increased to 13 unique gemstone designs and we started importing traditional malas from India. Since then we have continued to grow and expand our line of mala beads and we now have over 100 different malas available!

We are a small business located in Asheville, North Carolina and are dedicated to operating an eco-conscious company. Almost all of our packing and shipping materials are made from recycled materials (or are re-used) and since 2007 we have been a carbon neutral business. To preserve our peaceful working environment we do not take phone calls but we will happily return your email as quickly as we can.
