Yoga and Addiction Recovery
Yoga and Addiction Recovery
My students and i are embarking on a new adventure for our local area with the addition of "Yoga Twelve (TM)". A practice specifically designed to accompany 12-step recovery for all faith bases. My students are excited, and so am I.

We are focusing on chakras 2 and 4, as addiction resides in the second chakra, and the heart is so damaged from all that we do to ourselves and others. Asana, guided meditations and relaxation practices are the center of our practice.

If this is a journey you share with us, I would love to hear from you. What worked...what didn't, how it changed your life.

Blessing and Light
Namaste
Jai

Re:Yoga and Addiction Recovery
I would also like to learn a bit about yoga dealing with addictions. I recently quit smoking and sometimes when I consume alcohol, I find myself lighting up a cigarette. What can I practice to/how can I practice to stop this addiction of mine?

Yogic Wisdom
Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers, but to be fearless in facing them. Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain, but for the heart to conquer it. Let me not crave in anxious fear to be saved, but hope for the patience to win my freedom.
Rabindranath Tagore

Ahimsa, the yogic practice of non violence must be adhered to when engaging in the practice of hatha yoga. Respect your body's limitations and inner wisdom, if something feels wrong or dangerous, please do not do it.
Please consult your health care practitioner before starting a yoga, pranayama or other exercise program.
