HI everyone!! UFC 83 anyone?
HI everyone!! UFC 83 anyone?
Hello fellow Yoga buffs! My name is John, I'm just getting into Yoga, done it for a few months now, I'm amazed at how tough it is! I'm loving it!!

Also, I want to ask if anyone here is into Ultimate Fighting Championship? GSP and Matt Serra are fighting April 19th, I can't wait for this one!

I think fighting and Yoga go together, it really relaxes me to see 2 great fighters play a physical and mental game of chess, it's almost like a meditative state in that all time seems to fast foreward, 3 hours seems like 20 minutes.

I used to drink beer during UFC's but then I'd wake up the next day and not remember much of what happened, I've started doing Yoga and now I remember everything about the events! Thank GOD for this I say.

Anyways, I think we'll all be great friends, thanks for your time, and WOW does that woman at the top of the page have an invisable chair!?! LOL

Hi John,

Um, no, yoga and fighting do not go together. Yoga has a code of ethics, one of which is Ahimsa, non-violence. Fighting would go against the principle of Ahimsa and thus be not yogic at all.

I'm glad that you have found yoga and I invite you to explore the idea of Ahimsa in your life as it will bring you a great sense of peace and harmony and make your yoga asana practice much more effective.
Namaste,
Timothy

Hi John,

Glad you have found yoga, and enjoy it.
Have you taken an organized yoga class?
Are you doing yoga practice at home?

I've been practicing on and off since 1965.
Seems like Ijust started the jouney...yes, it is a journey.

Enjoy,
Duke

Re:HI everyone!! UFC 83 anyone?
Not a big UFC fan here but there is a Yoga that engages in self defense, Kosho Shorei Japanese Yoga. It’s a 750 year tradition of philosophy and personal development based on the Natural Laws that govern our existence. True self-defense with no body contact at the highest levels. What you say, self-defense with no body contact how can that be? Kosho Shorei Yoga was brought to Japan from India through China and includes but is not limited to the study of stretching (meridian rather then Charka based) and conditioning exercises designed specifically for the study of the Kosho Ryu martial arts (Kempo) as well as for general fitness, breathing, posture, triangulation of alignments, timing, visualization, energy gathering and projection exercises. Even if you look at Indian culture you will see many warriors, take the Bhagavad Gita, or song of God which takes place during a battle. Just recently there was a Hindu holiday that celebrated an Indian Warrior Goddess. There is always Yin with Yang or (Hatha) Ha- Tha or Sun - Moon it’s all about balance, keep up with your Yoga studies I’m sure you’ll grow out of the glorification of violence and immerse yourself further into Yoga.
Take care and good luck....

I'm not into it myself, but I found your post interesting because, I know an incredible yoga teacher..who is also into watching UFC! So, I can't necessarily agree with the people who were inplying that being interested in watching UFC speaks against a person and reflects negatively on who they are from a yogic perspective. Ahmisa is important...as is non-judgment.
