starting to teach yoga
Re:starting to teach yoga
When I teach I don't use mirroring as I want the students to be fully aware during the practice. When I have tried mirroring before a lot of students just got confused because I was doing the ooposite to what I was instructing them to do.

New students might have trouble at first. With repetition and consistency they will figure it out and adjust. If they don't know right from left and the connection to their body, I think its a good mental exercise for them to re-learn.

If you are demonstrating a new asana or sequence then I find it best to make eye contact with everyone and proceed slowly.

dolphin - you may want to try telling them you are mirroring them so they know. I have taught a few classes where they didn't get that I was mirroring them but once I explained what I was doing they were fine.
Namaste,

Yogic Wisdom
Without intention, all these postures, these breathing practices, meditations, and the like can become little more than ineffectual gestures. When animated by intention, however, the simplest movement, the briefest meditation, and the contents of one breath cycle are made potent.

Ahimsa, the yogic practice of non violence must be adhered to when engaging in the practice of hatha yoga. Respect your body's limitations and inner wisdom, if something feels wrong or dangerous, please do not do it.
