Sick because of yoga?
Ok, I started yoga about two and a half weeks ago and I am not sure what is going on or if there is any correlation between the two things. I was recently diagnosed with Mononucleosis. I just want to make sure that I am doing nothing wrong because I love doing yoga. I was doing the at home DVD AM/PM yoga everyday. I was also wondering if anyone knows if it would be harmful to keep doing it. I haven't been able to practice since Wednesday night and I am really missing it. I hope someone will be able to help. Thanks!

Re:Sick because of yoga?
Dear huser812,

Mononucleosis is a virus that is often transmitted by saliva. The only correlation to you catching this virus to the start of your recent yoga practice would be if you were overdoing it to the point of fatiguing and stressing your body's systems and thus compromising your immune system.

Generally, yoga helps boost the immune system, so you would have had to really over do it for this to happen. Since you were only doing the DVD, I do not think this could be the case here.

When you do go back to your practice, take things slowly at first and make sure that you respect your body's boundaries and do not do anything that makes you feel compromised.
Namaste,
Timothy

Re:Sick because of yoga?
I have a feeling I just overdid it! I was getting up early and trying to get in what I could throughout the day. I know that the mononucleosis was already in my system and now I know that I just wore myself out. I will know better for next time. Thank you for your information and advice for starting back up. I really appreciate it.
