| Knee pain

I'm new to yoga and very inflexible. My biggest problem, thus far, is not being able to sit cross legged. I am experiencing pain in my knees when attempting to sit in this position. I am not forcing it, but I want to know if my knee pain will lessen as I become more flexible? What can I do to sit this way?! Please advise!

You do not want to do anything that creates pain in your knees or any other joint. To comfortably sit cross legged you will need to work on poses that open up the hips. http://www.yogabasics.com/hip-opening-poses.htmlIn the meantime place folded blankets or yoga blocks under your knees to support them when sitting cross legged so you do not strain the joint.

Yogic Wisdom |
I have found that the greatest degree of inner tranquility comes
from the development of love and compassion.
The more we care for the happiness of others,
the greater is our own sense of well-being.
Cultivating a close, warmhearted feeling for others
automatically puts the mind at ease.
It is the ultimate source of success in life.
