The Lost Souls by Niraj Chag
While there have been many Indian/electronic fusion CDs recorded, The Lost Souls stands out by its sultry, mystical and magical sweetness as well as through its minimal use of electronica elements. While the guest vocalists make these tracks shine, they are perfectly balanced and accented by guitars, classical strings, harmonium, tabla, flutes and electronic instrumentation. The lyrics are a mix of original and traditional songs sung in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Braj basha, and Classical Indian sargam. |

The Chakra Bible by Patricia Mercier
This delightful book on body’s chakra energy centers is well designed and illustrated with beautiful color photographs, charts and drawings. The bulk of the book is straightforward, going through the seven main chakras with a chapter devoted to each one. Each chakra is described with its mental, emotional, spiritual and physical actions and functions. The colors, deities, crystals, mantras, yantras, yoga poses, sounds and herbs that effect and activate the chakra are also explained. |

Ten Million Moons by Gaura Vani
This devotion soaked CD is remarkable blend of many different musical styles, musicians and instruments. Raised as a “Krishna kid,” Gaura Vani draws on his upbringing singing and playing traditional Sanskrit, Hindi, Bengali chants to the Hindu god Krishna. This traditional Indian vibe is the uniting factor throughout this beautiful and passionately recorded and produced CD. Gaura Vani reminds me a bit of Jai Uttal’s voice as well as the intricate, funky and fun arrangements and instrumentation. |

Total Body Transformation + Weight Loss DVD
This is certainly the best independently produced yoga DVD that I have seen, and it has an impressive amount of content and viewing options to boot. Sadie Nardini is an up-and-coming yoga teacher based out of NYC who has a wide following for her numerous (currently 148!) YouTube videos. The DVD has six different 60-90 minute yoga programs to choose from, with a range of focus and intensity. Overall the sequences are quite challenging and definitely build strength and endurance. |

Still the Mind by Bodhipaksa
Still the Mind is a true gem of an audio CD program. If you have any interest in meditation, and especially if you are new or a beginner at meditation, I highly recommend that you check this title out. It is worth buying just to hear Bodhipaksa’s calm, clear voice and beautiful Scottish accent guide you through these teachings. |

The Key Poses of Hatha Yoga
The second volume in the "Scientific Keys" series of yoga anatomy books is just as impressive as the first with the same style of computer illustrated skeletal models and detailed written information. The Key Poses of Hatha Yoga describes the anatomy of the body through fifty-five yoga poses, organized by pose type (Standing, Hip Openers, Twists, etc.) Each yoga posture is given a brief anatomical synopsis and then is broken down into describing each muscle group and its action in the pose. Each pose is illustrated in multiple angles and close ups, and the color illustrations are color coded to show what muscles are contracting and stretching and to what degree. |

Guided Meditation iPhone Apps
If you are new to meditation or just enjoy guided meditations then one of the 3 iPhone/iTouch apps from Mental Workout should appeal to you. Mindfulness Meditation, Be Happy Now, and Open Your Heart all have a similar interface that is simple to use and beautiful to look at. The main screen gives you the option to choose which guided meditation practice you wish to use, and tapping one of them takes you to the audio player page with a simple play/pause, forward and back buttons and an info screen to read about the meditation. |

The Athlete's Pocket Guide to Yoga
This sweet little book is a delightful and abundant source of yoga pose sequences. Most of the 50 sequence routines are short (1-2 pages long), and are best used to either string a few of them together for a short practice or use one to spice up your personal practice. There are longer 1-hour focused routine sessions for strength, power, flexibility and focus at the back of the book, as well as three 20-minute flexibility routines to follow athletic workouts. |

Yoga Relax and Yoga Stretch Apps
Do yoga anywhere with these two beautifully produced iPhone/iTouch applications. These apps guide you through a unique yoga routine and are identical in their functioning, look and feel. Both have the same menus and interface, allowing you to choose between different audio soundtracks, turn the audio instruction on or off, or just limit the instruction to announcing the names of the poses. You can look up an individual pose for written instructions and benefits from the pose chart page. |

Emergence 2012 by Alex Theory
This inspiring and peaceful Cd is a collaboration between ambient-sound technician Alex Theory and philosopher-journalist Daniel Pinchbeck. The intention behind these compositions is to express a positive vision of the Mayan 2012 prophecy, and to prepare the listener to enter into a new realization of time, space and being. But buying into this prophecy is not required to enjoy and appreciate this finely crafted South American ambient soundtrack. |

Thunder Love by Jai Uttal
After focusing on traditional Kirtan (chanting) music for the last several years, Jai Uttal returns to his signature blend of world-music, American roots music, and devotional Bengali chanting. This recording is exceptionally well crafted and produced, and Jai does an amazing job of incorporating sultry Brazilian rhythms with ancient Sanskrit mantras. The spectrum of instruments used on this Cd is just astounding, and I especially enjoyed the documentation and use of “toy instruments, cookware, and pots and pans.” |
I absolutely love the artistic production of the DVDs from Acacia, and the latest yoga video with Sharon Gannon is no exception. I turned on the music only option and spent several joyful minutes just watching and listening to the beautiful filming of Sharon doing her practice with the musicians playing harmonium, violin and tamboura. As with other Acacia DVDs, the bonus features are great. The 11-minute Secret teachings of Yoga lecture is incredibly well done and reveals Sharon’s passion for yoga and her sweet inner radiance. |

Bowls by Oceanhouse Media
Use your fingertip on this iPhone/iTouch application to ring Tibetan singing bowls, gongs, bells, and tingsha cymbals. Most impressive is the ability to rub your finger over the edge of the bowl to make it ring with a highly resonate and authentic tone. There are seven pages in the app and each page includes a singing bowl (one for each chakra) plus one additional gong or chime. |

My teacher says that it is almost always some type of pain that brings us to yoga. Whether it’s physical, mental, or emotional, it is pain that leads us to the path of self-discovery. Pain is the sign of disconnection and division between our bodies, our minds, and our hearts. Matthew Sanford’s case was no different in that respect. After a tragic car accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down at thirteen, Matthew spent years trying to heal the physical, mental, and emotional pain that stemmed from the accident. Waking is the story of how he coped with this life altering event and ultimately found peace in the practice of yoga. |
