Core Fusion: Energy Flow Yoga DVD
This DVD is billed as an as "energetic, fast-paced practice” and an “intense total-body workout," and that certainly is an apt description of this 50-minute routine. Core Fusion is a unique combination of core conditioning, Pilates, the Lotte Berk Method, interval cardio training and yoga. Interval cardio training feels like the primary influence on this DVD, so this would be a perfect workout for someone who enjoys the pace and challenge of gym-style workouts. |

The Great Oom by Robert Love
Wow, this book is one roller-coaster ride of a story! Beautifully written and diligently researched, this biography of the mystical and mysterious Pierre Bernard, the first American yogi, is absolutely a must read for anyone interested in the history of yoga in America. Robert Love follows “the Great Oom” throughout his life: from his birth in Iowa, to the meeting of his Guru, through the scandals, legal battles, and jail time, and to the rise and eventual fall of his yoga empire. Having to constantly avoid scandal and criminal persecution in the 1920’s, Bernard and his Tantrik Order eventually move to an estate in Nyack, New York. |

Elephant Powered Remixes & Omstrumentals
Mantra rapper MC Yogi’s new double CD set takes the tracks from his debut album and repackages them in two interesting mixes. The first disk takes the lyrics of Elephant Power and remixes them to funky electronica and world-music inspired beats. The second disk is Elephant Power’s music tracks without most of MC Yogi’s hip-hop lyrics. |

MPG Sport Fall Yoga Clothes
Every so often something really cool comes along that blows my socks off and I have to talk about it. This is one of those times. I’ve been sporting some upscale yoga clothing lately that is simply divine. It’s from MPG Sport and boy, oh boy, I have to admit, I’m loving these items.
Now, I have to make a confession. I am not one of those yoga teachers who jumps onto or into the latest and greatest yoga clothing. In fact, I always shop the discount racks for yoga pieces that I do my best to mix and match with whatever I happen to come up with that’s not retail price. However, as luck and good karma would have it and because I not only write about what’s happening in the Yoga world for YogaBasics but also do “yoga gear” reviews, I got to try out some items from the MPG Sport Fall line. |

Gaiam Travel Yoga Mat
If you’ve ever tried dragging your yoga mat along your travel adventures, you’ve probably experienced how cumbersome and awkward they can be. They take up a lot of space and because of the shape and size, they simply don’t easily pack into a suitcase nor are they easily carried onto planes, even if they are stored in a mat bag.
Luckily, there are yoga mats created specifically for traveling yogis and yoginis, like the Gaiam Travel Yoga Mat. |

Beyond: Buddhist and Christian Prayers
Hauntingly beautiful and deeply spiritual, this Cd was inspired by the Dalai Lama’s message to cultivate and deepen one’s own religion as well as to search for shared values across all belief systems. Three spiritually committed performers have found a common ground through the singing of one’s daily prayers, and through this project they have deepened their love, compassion and connection for each other. |

Krishnamacharya: His Life and Teachings
No one has had more of an impact on how yoga is taught and practiced in the West than the late T. Krishnamacharya, yet many yogis do not know his name. His students included some of today’s most influential teachers: B.K.S. Iyengar, T. K. V. Desikachar, the late K. Pattabhi Jois, and the late Indra Devi. One of his longtime students, A. G. Mohan, has written this biography and memoir from Mohan’s collection of over 5000 pages of notes and numerous audio recordings of his personal training with Krishnamacharya. |

Yoga Body by Mark Singleton
This fascinating and remarkable book documents the history of hatha yoga and it’s practice of asanas (the physical postures) as it was metamorphosing in the late 1800s and early 1900s. During that period a “physical culture” was emerging in the West (and became imported to British occupied India) that involved refining the body through strengthening and stretching exercises. It is these body building and gymnastic techniques that Singleton documents how they slowly influenced and redefined the practices, concept and public option of hatha yoga. |

Yoga Therapy for Back Pain DVD
This is an essential yoga DVD for those who suffer from the most common forms of back pain. I love how there are several sequences to choose from to target where and what type of back pain you have, as well as being able to choose a longer or shorter yoga practice for each sequence. If you are not sure what yoga sequence would be best for your back, the introduction chapter gives a great overview of the types and symptoms of different back conditions. |
This researched and highly informative book begins with a thorough overview of the pathology, philology, treatment and prevention of osteoporosis. While these first seven chapters are not required reading to benefit from this book, they will be essential to understand why and how yoga is one of the most effective treatments for this disease, as well as to learn of other treatment approaches that may be helpful as well. The remainder of the chapters are focused on three different yoga practices for managing, treating and preventing osteoporosis and osteopenia: a bone solidifying sequence, a muscular strengthening sequence, and a balancing sequence. |

The Yoga Sutras by Nicolai Bachman
This seven Cd and spiral bound book set gives a comprehensive teaching of the philosophy described in Patajali’s Yoga Sutras. While not commenting on the entirety of the Yoga Sutras, Bachman’s explanations of fifty-one core concepts creates a solid foundation for insight and further study. Bachman has arranged the discussion of these yogic concepts to build one on top of another, letting you slowly gain comprehension and an understanding of the interconnection of the philosophy and techniques of the Sutras. |

Lost in a Moment is a soft, sweet and dreamy bossa nova inspired album that works great as the soundtrack or mixed in a playlist for a yoga class. The cool and carefree vocals sung in English, Portuguese and French by Brazilian vocalist Nina Miranda are pure sweetness and pull you into a magical mystical realm. |
