yoga therapy for depression
In the Yoga Sutras, Patanjali states that our inner obstacles create mental distraction, which in turn leads to Daurmanasya, depression. These inner obstacles can be removed by the practice of yogic techniques: asana, meditation and pranayama. We have created this page as a resource guide to using yoga exercises to heal mild to moderate depression as well as provide information for further study, healing and support.

Yoga is contraindicated with severe depression or other serious mental disorders. Severe or chronic depression (over four weeks) needs to be treated by a medical professional. A yoga practice should be used to supplement conventional therapy, not replace it.

Yoga postures will activate and move prana in the body, open the heart center, stimulate and nervous system and balance the body-mind-spirit.
