Who do you think of when you think of yogis? Often, media portrays yogis and yoginis in a very particular way: tall, thin, and able-bodied. But yoga is for everybody, regardless of body shape or ability. This month’s inspirational yoga video is a perfect example of how anyone with any body can practice yoga.
It can be easy to assume that injuries or disabilities could keep us off the mat for good, but as Madelynn, a wheelchair user with a T5 spinal cord injury, proves, there are plenty of ways to practice with the help of pose modifications.
This short time-lapse video gives us a glimpse into Madelynn’s daily yoga practice with paralysis. While she lacks the ability to use her legs, Madelynn modifies asanas to suit the range of motion she does have.
Watch Madelynn’s practice below to feel inspired to step on your mat no matter what your limitations are!
