If you had to choose between meditating in silence and watching action-packed superheroes (a grander metaphor for Hindu traditions or modern life), what would you choose? Let’s rephrase that question: what would you choose if you were a young boy? In the short Pixar animated film, Sanjay’s Super Team, young Sanjay is enthralled by the American superheroes on his television as his father meditates and prays to Hindu deities. Sanjay reluctantly joins his father for prayer but soon discovers the world of meditation and superheroes in a whole new light.
It’s the directing debut for Pixar animator, Sanjay Patel, and part based on Patel’s experiences growing up in California with Indian immigrant parents. It premiered in June 2015 at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France and accompanied the theatrical release of Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur in November 2015.
